Barnegat Lighthouse

“Old Barney” is the obvious icon of LBI is the most exciting place to visit on the island. You can climb the lighthouse year round free in the winter and $1 per person in the summer. Radiant bay views from the top make the 220 steps up well worth doing. First lit in 1857, the lighthouse was engineered by Lt. George Meade, who would later go on to lead the Union Army to victory over the Confederates at the Battle of Gettysburg just 6 years later. Many angleman fishers fish from the Barnegat Inlet jetty nearby and has previously been named by the Star Ledger as “One of the best fishing spots on the Jersey Shore”. The beauty and history makes Barnegat Light State Park a must see.

Weather

Summers spent on the Jersey Shore tend to be very hot. Although, the island usually stays 5ºF cooler on the mainland due to the westwardly winds. The average temperature is in the 80’s but can swell up to 100ºF. Hurricanes are virtually non-existant in New Jersey too. We cannot guarentee perfect weather that you see in the still reflective water picture but we hope that the weather only effects your stay for the better.

Fishing/Crabbing

Without a doubt, the most popular activites to do on LBI are fishing and crabbing. Fishing directly off our dock is fun and safe for kids but don’t expect to catch a trophy fish. If you are a serious fisher then you would want to look into heading over to viking village to checkout the party fishing boats which leave daily for 4-6hr trips. Crabbing off our dock has proven to be very successful. It is likely that leaving a trap in for a couple days off our dock will bring you enough blue claw keepers for a meal.

Local Cuisine

Some of the best Shore cuisine is located on LBI. This is partly because of the fresh clams, scallops, and oysters that are harvested out of Barnegat Bay and brought in by the Viking Village fleet daily. Some local favorites include:off the hook, kellys, harvey cedars shellfish co., the plantation, yellowfin, blue, the lobster claw, daddy o, and the quater deck inn. Be aware that summer does bring long lines at restaurants so call ahead to make a reservation. Many menus for the restaurants listed above can be found in our kitchen.

Beach Access

There are two ways you can access the beach while staying at our house. The first way is to simply walk up to the beach through the private lanes across the boulevard. You will not have any problems beacause we have an easment with the home owners across the boulevard. The other way is to use our Loveladies Harbor parking permits located on the bulletin board and drive to one of the two designated lots. You will also find the beach badges on the bulletin board.

Pool Usage

Our warm and relaxing pool is open from May-October. The pool heating equipment is not included in the rental, but may be turned on for an additional fee. Our pool is a great alternative to the Atlatic Ocean. You may also swim in the lagoon which is usually in the mid 80’s during the summer. Please remember that there is no lifeguard on duty and you swim at your own risk.
